KAVA

Piper methysticum

WHAT IS IT

Kava is a plant native to the South Pacific, long used in Polynesian ceremonies and community gatherings. Its active compounds, known as kavalactones, promote relaxation, calm, and a gentle sense of euphoria. Traditionally valued for easing occasional anxiety, kava is also appreciated for enhancing social connection.

THE KAVA TRADITION

Traditionally, kava has been prepared from the root of the Piper methysticum plant and shared during ceremonies and social gatherings across the South Pacific. Communities in Fiji, Vanuatu, Tonga, and Samoa have long valued kava for its ability to promote relaxation, encourage open conversation, and foster a sense of unity. Served from a communal bowl, the ritual drinking of kava remains a symbol of respect, hospitality, and cultural connection.

Suggested usage

Kavalactones Dosing

Kavalactones, the active ingredient in Kava, include a variety of different compounds whose exact quantities can vary depending on the strain of Kava they come from.

In general, 40 mg is a good beginner-friendly dose of Kavalactones. This dose will promote mood elevation and relaxation without impairing mental clarity.

Safety

Kava is best enjoyed in moderation. Larger amounts may cause drowsiness, and it’s not recommended to mix kava with alcohol. Like many botanicals, it’s wise to give your body breaks between use, as daily long-term consumption may place stress on the liver.
